What AI Will Not Replace

Much of what leaders once paid coaches and consultants for, they now get from AI. Not all of it.

Frank Tsuro, 2 minute read

AI now drafts the board paper, summarises the pack and answers a leader’s questions at midnight. Much of what leaders once paid coaches and consultants for, they now get in seconds. That is real. It is not going back.

But the most expensive part of a big decision was never the writing. It was finding out what is really happening. That information rarely sits in a document.

AI works with what it is given. It does not question the brief, and nobody tells it what they are afraid to say.

What still needs a person

Finding out what was never reported

The bad news that shrank on its way up and the objection settled before the meeting are not in the data. People share them with a person, in confidence, when it costs them nothing.

Asking the questions nobody wants asked

A system answers the question you ask it. Someone has to ask whether it is the right question.

Standing behind the advice

When a decision goes wrong, someone answers for the advice. That is part of what you are paying for.

This is not an argument against AI. Use it for everything it does well. It is an argument for knowing which half of the work you are handing over.

Hand over the writing. Keep the frank conversations.
